The great thing about the UK is all the second-hand book stores. I’ve already mentioned in a previous entry that I picked up a book about British Battles, well I also picked up this little book about uniforms in the Seven Years’ War. Excellent initial reference material for the handful of SYW miniatures that I have stored somewhere in my piles of unpainted miniatures. The good part is it only cost £4, which is essentially $8 AU, bargain in my books. There are so many other stores I could venture into and I know there would be many more books to purchase, but I do have a baggage limit.
Anyway, a summary of the book is as follows:
John Mollo, the well-known expert on military dress, discusses the campaigns of the Seven Years’ War and describes the uniforms and equipment worn in such famous battles as Roßbach, Leuthen, Minden, Kunersdorf and Warburg. In North America, Braddock’s defeat on the Monongahela in 1755 and Wolfe’s victory at Quebec in 1759 are given special emphasis. Malcolm McGregor, the illustrator, is now widely recognised as an outstanding military artist and in this, his third Blandford uniform book, his magnificent colour paintings are again based on actual people of the period.
